THE Super Mario Bros movie. came out this week, and although it garnered a mixed responsethere is a generally agreed climax: Jack Black’s Bowser. Black has always been a funny and reliable actor, and the film would benefit from that, along with his very good singing voice.
With the film now out, a music video has been released for “Peaches”, one of the songs in the film that Bowser presumably sings at a key point in the film. (That, or during the credits, I haven’t seen him yet.) Wearing a green jacket with leather cufflinks and a goofy headgear, the “Peaches” video is truly simply gorgeous. The song is good, the video itself is funny, and it’s pretty clear that Black is completely having fun with it and playing Bowser in general. When he said “Mario, Luigi, and a Donkey Kong too, a thousand Koopas soldiers couldn’t take me away from you”… I felt that, man. This is the official song of the summer.
Since the box office of Super Mario Bros. is quite high – at the time of writing it should win $368 million around the world – it’s safe to say that we’ll get more of these movies and, by extension, more Bowser. If and when Illumination announces this sequel, I hope they also announce that it will include more songs for Bowser. Clearly, Black is willing to go the extra mile for the character.
The movie Super Mario Bros. is currently playing in theaters and “Peaches” is available online for you to listen to as much as you want.
